On the bottom this skimmer you can see 2 black holes.  The one close to the pool is connected to the main drain (at the bottom of the pool). The other one is the suction line back to the pump and filter system.

 NOW Here is the problem when or if the water level drops below the skimmer level the float valve drops down and now you are sucking water directly from the bottom of the pool. There is enough suction to HOLD a small person in place under water!
